N.Y. Father Arrested for Using Son’s Health Benefits
New York State Insurance Department Superintendent Gregory Serio announced the arrest of Jonathan S. Isdell, Sr. of Schenectady, New York, for fraudulently using his son’s medical benefits identification number to obtain healthcare related services and prescription drugs.
He surrendered yesterday to the Schenectady Police Department and was charged with insurance fraud and grand larceny. The charges allege that Isdell, Sr., was using his son’s (Jonathan Isdell, Jr.) Capital District Physician’s Health Plan (CDPHP) medical benefits identification number to obtain healthcare related services and prescription drugs. He would also use the emergency room services of local hospitals and/or doctor’s offices to obtain the services and would state he had CDPHP coverage. He would then use his son’s number, sign his signature to the form, and CDPHP would be billed accordingly. The total dollar amount for these services is in excess of $13,000.
If convicted of these charges Isdell faces up to a maximum of seven years in prison.
