N.J. Woman Pleads Guilty to Stealing $14,000 From Company

New Jersey’s Acting Attorney General Peter Harvey announced that a Somerset County woman has pled guilty to theft charges for stealing more than $14,000 from her former insurance company employer.

According to Vaughn McKoy, Acting Director, Division of Criminal Justice and Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden Brown, Tara Mack, 31, of North Plainfield, pled guilty before Morris County Superior Court Judge Salem Ahto to an Accusation which charged third degree theft. A third degree crime carries a sentence of up to five years in state prison and a fine of up to $15,000. Mack may also face civil insurance fraud fines pursuant to the Insurance Fraud Prevention Act. Mack is scheduled to appear before Judge Ahto on June 20 for sentencing.

The Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor’s investigation determined that Mack was employed as a financial support technician at the Prudential Insurance Company’s Parsippany Office from May, 1997 to May, 2001.

At the guilty plea hearing, Mack reportedly admitted that between February and April, 2001 she stole seven Prudential depositor checks totaling more than $14,135. Mack admitted depositing the stolen funds into a personal business account controlled by another person.
