N.Y. Doctor Announces Settlement of Defamation Action Against Allstate
New York physician Dipak Nandi, M.D. issued an announcement that he has settled his U.S. Federal District Court defamation action against Allstate Insurance Company and Encompass Insurance, a division of Allstate Insurance Company, which he commenced in June of 2002.
He also said that Allstate and the other insurance company plaintiffs have settled all of the civil actions, including the civil RICO case, that they had commenced against him in 2001.
Dr. Nandi’s defamation case, which was originally filed in New York State Supreme Court last year and was later moved to the United States Federal Court for the Eastern District of New York, accused the insurance companies of maliciously and willfully intending to injure Dr. Nandi’s reputation by falsely accusing him of being a “ringleader” in a “multi-million dollar fraud enterprise.”
He indicated that he was “very pleased to put this difficult and distracting period behind me.”
