Truck Driver Found Guilty of Theft Against IWIF
A route truck driver working for a Baltimore County trucking company was recently found guilty of felony theft against IWIF, Maryland’s largest workers’ compensation insurance company, in Baltimore County Circuit Court.
The claimant received a one year and one day suspended jail sentence, two years of monitored probation and given 18 months to pay IWIF full restitution in the amount of $8,432.
During a routine review of high loss accounts, an IWIF fraud investigator discovered suspicious activity involving a route driver who was collecting Temporary Total benefits from IWIF. It turned out that the claimant was reportedly also working as a newspaper deliveryman while collecting his disability payments.
The case went to court where the claimant was later found guilty of felony theft.
