Del. Commissioner Notes 2003 Financial Support for State Fire, Rescue and Ambulance Organizations

Delaware Insurance Commissioner Donna Lee Williams announced the totals of this year’s State financial support of Delaware fire
companies. The State’s disbursements come from taxes paid by insurers based on property insurance premiums written during the calendar year 2003.

This year the disbursements to the fire companies totals $17,744,266.46. Volunteer fire companies within each county share disbursements equally. Each volunteer fire company in New Castle County will receive $360,337.53, those in Kent $151,213.39, and Sussex County companies will receive $188,256.80. The Wilmington Firemen’s Pension Plan Fund will receive $3,501,944.51.

Williams also announced that the State’s total disbursements to
nonprofit ambulance and rescue operations would be $2,349,007.29. This distribution amount is based on life, accident and health insurance premiums reported by insurers as written in Delaware during the 2003 calendar year. The 63 non-profit ambulance and rescue services throughout the State will each receive $37,285.83.
