Four Killed, Nearly 200 Injured in Pa. Holiday Accidents
Four people were killed in traffic crashes investigated by Pennsylvania State Police during the three-day New Year’s holiday driving period, State Police Commissioner Col. Jeffrey Miller said Monday.
In addition to the four fatalities, 185 people were injured in 467 crashes
to which troopers responded. Col. Miller said 76 of the crashes, including two of the fatal crashes, were alcohol-related. Three of the four persons killed were not wearing seat belts.
Col. Miller said troopers issued 2,985 speeding citations, arrested
233 people for driving under the influence, cited 102 individuals for not
wearing seat belts and issued citations to 31 persons for failing to secure children in child safety seats.
The report does not include statistics on incidents to which other law
enforcement agencies in the state responded.
Col. Miller said the official holiday driving period covered Dec. 31
through Jan. 2.
During last year’s New Year’s holiday driving period, which covered only two days, seven people died and 139 others were injured in 318 crashes to which State Police responded.
