Mass. Physician Pays $100,000 to Settle Medicare Charges for Reported Overbilling

United States Attorney Michael Sullivan; Joseph Moraski, Regional Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General; and Kenneth Kaiser of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, announced they have settled civil claims against Arthur Bregoli, M.D., under the False Claims Act. Bregoli, who resides in Braintree, Massachusetts, paid $100,000 to resolve the claims.

Based on its investigation, the United States alleged that Bregoli had overbilled Medicare, during the period 1995 to 1999, by overcharging Medicare patients for nursing facility care in various Massachusetts nursing homes.

By the terms of the Settlement Agreement, Bregoli has also entered into a Certificate of Compliance Agreement with the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services in order that, among other things, his compliance with the Medicare billing guidelines can be monitored.
