Baltimore Cop Learns to Keep Keys to Himself, Charged with Fraud; Wife Reportedly Driving During Accident
Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced the filing of felony insurance fraud and attempted theft charges against Baltimore City Police Officer Eric Spilman.
In a two count criminal information filed in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, Spilman was charged with making fraudulent statements to Progressive Insurance Company in support of an insurance claim and attempting to steal approximately $4,000 in insurance proceeds.
The charges allege that Spilman, of Grain Court in Baltimore County, reported to the insurance company that he was driving his vehicle when it was involved in an accident on Feb. 19, 2005. In fact, his wife, Lori Spilman, who reportedly did not have a driver’s license and was excluded from the policy, had reportedly been driving the vehicle.
If convicted, Spilman could face up to 15 years in prison on each count. No trial date has been set.
