Crop Loss Payments Reach All-Time High in Delaware
Last year’s drought conditions proved costly for Delaware farmers.
The $16 million paid out in crop insurance money to Delaware farmers is more than double the previous record of $7.6 million set in 2002.
The program facilitator for the Delaware Targeted States Crop Insurance Education Program, Don Clifton, said some farmers saw total losses of their corn and soybean crops.
He said farmers are optimistic about this year’s weather, but he’s recommending appropriate levels of crop insurance just in case that optimism is unwarranted.
