Feds: No Aid for Va. Tornado Victims
The damage caused in several Virginia localities by tornadoes last week was not enough to qualify victims for federal emergency assistance.
Virginia Department of Emergency Management spokesman Bob Spieldenner says teams of local, state and federal representatives have determined the damage did not meet the required total uninsured dollar amount to gain such assistance.
Department officials say most of the homes and businesses impacted by the 10 confirmed tornadoes had enough insurance to cover their losses.
The tornadoes caused an estimated $32 million in damage. Suffolk was the hardest-hit.
