Small Earthquake Reported in Northern Virginia
The U.S. Geological Survey says a small earthquake has been recorded in the northern Virgiina-Washington, D.C. area.
There have been no reports of damage or injuries.
The earthquake occurred at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the epicenter was about a mile from Annandale. The Geological Survey estimated its magnitude at 1.8.
According to the Geological Survey’s Web site, Earthquakes with magnitude of about 2.0 or less are usually called microearthquakes; they are not commonly felt by people and are generally recorded only on local seismographs.
