Rhode Island Schools Share Security Grants
School systems in nine Rhode Island communities are sharing more than $363,000 in federal grants to develop a joint security plan.
Pawtucket city official Edward Tetzner says the Department of Homeland Security gave each community $25,000 to upgrade security at their schools, as well as nearly $139,000 to help the nine communities work together on a plan.
The communities are Pawtucket, Providence, Central Falls, Cranston, Warwick, West Warwick, Johnston, East Providence and North Providence.
The grants will be used for a variety of purposes, including new locks on school doors and surveillance cameras.
