New York Chiropractor Arrested for Insurance Fraud
A Suffolk County chiropractor who continued to submit claims for treating a patient four years after he stopped the treatments has been arrested for insurance fraud, the New York State Insurance Department reported.
Dr. Richard Nebiosini, of Medford, was arrested by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office for insurance fraud. Officials said the arrest followed an investigation by the Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau, the New York State Worker’s Compensation Board’s Office of the Fraud Inspector General, and the Suffolk County DA’s office.
According to investigators, Nebiosini provided chiropractic treatments to the patient for 10 years until 2004. However, they said that he submitted 96 fraudulent claims totaling $3,201 to CNA Insurance from 2004 until May 2008 for treatments that were never rendered. Investigators said the false claims were discovered when the insurance company contacted the former patient to verify whether she was still being treated.
Nebiosini was released pending a hearing to be scheduled in Suffolk County Court. If he is convicted, he could be sentenced to up to four years in prison.
