Police: Driver in Fatal Rhode Island Crash Was Drunk, Speeding
Police say the driver of a car that crashed in Cranston earlier this month, killing three occupants, was drunk and going more than double the speed limit.
Police say a preliminary investigation has found that the Pontiac driven by Conor Young of Cranston was going at least 85 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone on Elmwood Avenue south on Feb. 7.
Police say Young lost control, crossed the center line and rotated counterclockwise before crashing into another vehicle.
The 20-year-old Young, as well as passengers 19-year-old Richard Elliott and 22-year-old Christopher Athaide, died. Police say all three had a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit.
Four others were injured.
