New Hampshire Woman Charged With Deceiving New Insurer
A Lebanon, N.H., woman has been charged with trying to deceive her new insurance company with a claim filed the day after she signed up for coverage.
State officials say an indictment charges Smith with getting the Progressive Northern Insurance Co. policy last Oct. 6 and calling in a claim the next day. The indictment says the car damage she claimed actually happened before she took out the policy.
Officials say 42-year-old Lori Smith faces up to 15 years in prison and a $4,000 fine if she is convicted of the felony charge.
State Attorney General Kelly Ayotte and Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny announced the charges.
