New Hampshire Might Double Small Claims Court Limits
New Hampshire’s House is considering doubling small claims court limits to $10,000.
The bill would require mediation in cases where claims exceed $5,000. Supporters said raising the damages limit will allow people who can’t afford a lawyer to represent themselves and gain the benefit of mediation.
Opponents argued the change will benefit collection agencies, banks and credit card companies that they say are better equipped to pursue claims in the informal setting.
