Virginia Recalls Mississippi Oysters Linked to Illness
Virginia is recalling oysters harvested in a section of Mississippi’s coastal waters that were linked to a norovirus infection among patrons at a Tennessee restaurant.
The Virginia Department of Health issued the recall over the weekend. The agency said the oysters should be removed from most markets in Virginia by early this week.
No illnesses have been reported in Virginia. The agency said the recall was a precautionary step.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Tennessee officials reported the link between the restaurant illnesses and oysters harvested on Feb. 24 in the Conditionally Approved Area 2-C Shellfish Growing Waters in the Pass Christian, Miss., area.
The Virginia recall affects oysters harvested in Area 2-C between Feb. 24 and March 17.
