Virginia Hospital Spends $750K to Fix Fire Code Violations
Virginia’s Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital says patients and staff have not been endangered despite multiple fire code violations that turned up during a three-month state inspection.
State inspectors documented 1,500 instances where fire regulations weren’t followed in a 351-page report. The report says the Roanoke Valley’s largest hospital had violations involving smoke detectors, sprinklers, fire extinguishers and alarms in numerous places, including patient rooms, halls, labs and stairwells.
Engineering director John Morris says Carilion has spent approximately $750,000 fixing problems since the inspection.
