Baltimore Officer Indicted for Insurance Fraud
The Maryland Attorney General’s Office says a Baltimore police officer has been indicted for claiming that a car he traded had been stolen.
Authorities say 30-year-old Hikeem Crampton Sr. of Rosedale is charged with insurance fraud and attempted felony theft. He was indicted Friday in Frederick County Circuit Court.
Crampton allegedly reported his Cadillac Escalade as stolen in late 2008, but authorities say he traded it to buy another car in January 2008.
City police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told The Baltimore Sun that the police department suspended Crampton with pay in June, upon learning of the allegation.
His arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 25. It isn’t clear why Crampton was indicted in Frederick County and court documents don’t list an attorney.
