Delaware City Bans Phones while Driving
The Wilmington, Delaware City Council has passed a ban on talking on cell phones while driving unless the phones are used with a handsfree device.
The ban begins Jan. 1. All text messaging is banned, as is talking on the phone while riding a bike.
The punishment for violating the ordinance is a $50 fine. Emergency and law enforcement personnel are exempt.
AAA Mid-Atlantic supports the ban. However, it’s encouraging the state to pass a ban covering all of Delaware to avoid a patchwork of local regulations.
