Massive Fire Destroys Abandoned Nightclub in Central Massachusetts
A century-old abandoned building that was once a popular nightclub in Central Massachusetts has been destroyed in a spectacular fire.
The nearly 22,000 square-foot building on an island on Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury was quickly consumed Sunday night. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
The building was initially a club house, but in the early 20th century was converted to the Hi-Hat, a club with a restaurant, dance floor and bar.
The beach it stood on, Tatassit Beach, became a popular swimming spot in the 1950s.
The building had been abandoned for about 20 years and had fallen into disrepair.
