Professor Sues Connecticut University Over False Shooter ID
An Ivy League professor is suing Wesleyan University in Connecticut, saying it mistakenly circulated his photo as the suspect in the killing of a student there.
Cornell University sociology professor Stephen L. Morgan shares a name with Stephen P. Morgan, who is charged with the May 6 slaying of 21-year-old Johanna Justin-Jinich.
Justin-Jinich, of Timnath, Colo. She was gunned down at a bookstore near Wesleyan’s campus.
The professor’s lawsuit says Wesleyan mistakenly circulated his picture as that of the suspect during the manhunt, then dragged its feet to correct the error. He’s seeking unspecified monetary damages.
The lawsuit was filed in Middletown Superior Court. A Wesleyan spokesman declined to comment.
