New Jersey Waste Company Faces Safety Fines
Federal labor authorities have cited a New Jersey solid waste company for alleged health and safety violations.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says Solid Waste Transfer & Recycling Inc. of Newark has been cited for 4 “willful violations,” which carry a fine of $198,000 and 6 violations classified as serious which carry a $14,400 fine.
A message left for the company manager was not immediately returned.
Labor officials say the violations were discovered during a June 3 inspection that is part of a government effort to target industries with high injury and illness rates.
The inspection found the company’s lockout procedures and machine guards lacking, among other violations.
