Federal Disaster Aid for Long Island
Two suburban New York counties are expected to receive federal disaster aid to help repair damage from a tropical storm in November.
President Obama declared a disaster area in Suffolk and Nassau counties on Thursday after Tropical Storm Ida caused severe beach erosion Nov. 12-14.
Federal funds will be available to state and local governments and some private organizations to repair or replace damaged facilities.
Sen. Charles Schumer says the decision means that the two Long Island counties will get the assistance they desperately need.
