Connecticut Insurance Department Recovered Nearly $3.2M Last Year
Connecticut insurance regulators recovered almost $3.2 million last year for consumers involved in formal disputes with their insurers over claims payments.
There were 6,798 complaints and inquiries lodged last year. The bulk of the complaints focused on Accident and Health product lines, which accounted for roughly 3,000 complaints and $1.3 million in recoveries.
Auto lines were the second-largest source of complaints. Over 1,300 complaint and inquiries were received in 2009, and consumers recovered $478,498, or about 15 percent of total recoveries.
Homeowners product lines accounted for over 10 percent of complaints and consumers in this category recovered $372,772, or about 12 percent of total recoveries.
“In these difficult economic times, Connecticut policyholders can rest assured that the Insurance Department is working to make sure they receive every penny they are entitled to under the terms of their insurance contract,” Commissioner Thomas Sullivan said.
