Pedestrians Deaths on the Rise in Delaware
Delaware officials say pedestrians deaths have risen dramatically so far this year.
According to the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, 16 pedestrians have died in traffic-related crashes this year. That’s three times higher than the number of pedestrian deaths this time last year.
Seventy-five percent of the fatalities this year happened in New Castle County, with most occurring on or near the areas of Routes 7 and 13 in low light or dark conditions.
In almost every case, statistics show the pedestrian was at fault. Most often, the pedestrian stepped into the path of a car and did not sure a crosswalk or marked intersection.
