Pennsylvania Farm Fire Burns 300 Tons of Hay
It took firefighters about nine hours to put out a blaze that consumed up to 300 tons of hay at an eastern Pennsylvania farm.
The fire broke out Tuesday evening in Bethlehem Township. WFMZ-TV reported the blaze spewed thick smoke for hours before firefighters finally put it out. Firefighters left the scene around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
In an e-mail to neighbors, co-owner Dale Koehler says 200 to 300 tons of hay have been burned. He apologized for the smoke and burning smell, which he expects to last several days.
Co-owner Gloria Koehler told The Morning Call of Allentown that the bales are used for mulch, principally for growing mushrooms in the Reading area.
