Fire on New York Farm Destroys 100-Plus Acres of Hay
Authorities say a wind-driven fire has scorched more than 100 acres of hay on a northern New York farm.
Fire officials in the town of Rutland, just east of Watertown, say Sunday night’s blaze is believed to have been sparked by a malfunctioning hay baler being used by a farmer.
Firefighters from six departments kept the blaze from spreading to nearby homes. Officials say the blaze was under control around 7:30 p.m.
Authorities say between 100 and 150 acres of hay were destroyed by the fire.
One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation.
