Candles Blamed for Deadly Upstate New York Fire
Authorities say unattended candles sparked the fire that killed three family members inside their upstate New York home last weekend.
Fire investigators tell Binghamton media outlets that multiple candles were in the living room at the Sindon family’s home when the fire started early Saturday morning.
Killed in the blaze were 61-year-old Robert Sindon, his son 32-year-old Joseph Sindon, and Joseph Sindon’s daughter, 4-year-old Isabella Sindon.
Robert Sindon owned a diner and a deli in Binghamton before he retired and taught religious education at his church.
Investigators say they found no smoke detectors in the home. They’ve ruled the fire accidental.
