New York City Cemetery: Dumped Snow Toppled Gravestones
The manager of a Brooklyn cemetery says 21 gravestones were toppled by snow that was dumped by sanitation department crews.
Washington Cemetery manager Marisa Tarantino tells the New York Post that the snow was probably dumped sometime over the New Year’s holiday. The Jewish cemetery plans to file a claim with the city.
The Post reports that several vehicles parked near the cemetery also were buried and damaged by the snow removal.
Sanitation department spokesman Keith Mellis told the Post the agency would provide motorists and the cemetery with paperwork for file damage claims.
The Christmas weekend blizzard dumped up to 20 inches of snow on the city.
