Vermonters Dance to Raise $450K for Uninsured Barn
The Vermont College of Fine Arts is hosting a contra dance to benefit an emergency fund for organic farmers like Pete’s Greens in Craftsbury, which lost a barn to fire.
The Jan. 12 fire destroyed the main barn and its contents including vegetable washing and processing equipment, walk-in-coolers and freezers and a tractor trailer full of frozen meat. The uninsured losses are estimated to be $450,000.
Pete’s Greens is one of the state’s largest providers of vegetables.
The contra dance will be held Feb. 12 at the Vermont College of Fine Arts gymnasium in Montpelier.
A silent auction will also take place. The proceeds will go to help organic farms who have been hurt by natural and unnatural disasters, including fire, flood, or heavy snow damaging buildings.
