New York Driver Hits Utility Pole, Causes Fires
A Long Island motorist caused a chain reaction of fires and property damage when her car hit a utility pole and kept on going.
Police said the 80-year-old woman complained of head pain and was taken to a local hospital, where she was evaluated and released. She had no passengers.
Police said her car hit a utility pole in Roslyn Harbor on Saturday afternoon, then continued on and struck a brick wall. The pole fell and caused an electrical fire and a gas line to ignite. The fires spread to shrubs and another car. Police said two more utility poles fell as a result.
The Glenwood Fire Department responded and put out the blaze. No other injuries were reported.
