Carob Product Recall in Northeast Because of Milk
Two kinds of carob products sold at health food stores in four northeastern states have been recalled because their labels don’t mention they contain milk.
Health officials in New York say the “Carob Brown Rice Crunch Squares” and “Carob Mint Miniatures” could cause serious or life-threatening illness in consumers allergic to milk. They say no illnesses had been reported as of Friday.
The products were packaged and distributed by Simple Foods of Tonawanda, N.Y., for sale in New York, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The squares are in 1.6-ounce cellophane packages and the miniatures are in 5.5-ounce boxes.
Consumers may return them to the stores where they were purchased.
