Lightning Strikes Damage Properties in Maryland
Officials say a fast-moving storm produced a number of lightning strikes in southern Anne Arundel County that damaged properties.
Lt. Frank Fennell, a county fire department spokesman, says the most extensive damage Monday occurred at a waterfront property in Edgewater. Investigators determined that lightning hit a tree and nearby propane tank, causing a fire and more than $250,000 in damages. About 60 firefighters from five companies battled the blaze.
Fennell says lightning also struck a farmhouse in West River, causing about $25,000 in damages.
Lightning strikes were also reported in Riva and Davidsonville, but no property was damaged.
Fennell says no injuries were reported in any of the strikes.
