Conn. Insurance Dept. Recovers $2.4M for Consumers

Connecticut Insurance Department officials say they have recovered $2.4 million for consumers in the first half of the year by settling disputes with insurance companies.

Insurance Commissioner Thomas Leonardi says agency examiners looked into nearly 3,600 consumer complaints from Jan. 1 to June 30 and resolved about 3,100 disputes. Health insurance claims made up the bulk of the recovered funds.

Leonardi says his agency helps thousands of policy holders resolve disputes with their insurance carriers each year and makes sure insurers keep their promises.

The funds recovered in the first half of 2011 include about $888,000 in accident and health cases, $619,000 in homeowners and farmers cases and $345,000 in general liability cases.
