New York Jury Awards Guard $465,000 for Sexual Harassment
A federal jury has awarded a female correction officer in upstate New York $465,000 after she said she was sexually harassed by another guard.
Amy Negron said a corporal at the Ulster County Jail cornered her, grabbed her genitals and made sexual comments in December 2005. The corporal was later fired.
Negron filed a complaint with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission then sued in June 2008. The jury award was announced this week.
Negron’s lawyer says the county was ordered to pay $390,000, the current and former sheriffs $30,000 each and the corporal, Paul Wesolowski, $15,000.
