New Hampshire Man Failed to Clean Up Oil Spill
The state has issued an $80,000 penalty against a New Hampshire man, saying he failed to report and clean up an oil spill in the basement of an apartment he owns.
The state Department of Environmental Services estimated between 200 and 500 gallons of heating oil had been released to the basement floor and underlying soil at the Berlin building in 2010. The state says the oil tanks were no longer in operation and the delivery service wasn’t notified.
The attorney general’s office said Monday the state repeatedly tried to contact Brian Yee of Derry about the cleanup. It says he didn’t respond to DES or to a lawsuit filed against him in Coos County Superior Court. The cleanup is ongoing.
There is no phone listing for Yee.
