Popular Vermont Pedestrian Bridge Shut Down
A popular pedestrian bridge over the Winooski River in Montpelier has been shut down because of safety concerns.
City officials say it’s no longer safe to walk on the bridge that connects Route 2 with State Street.
Officials tells WCAX-TV the underside of the bridge is corroded and in need of repairs.
The bridge was built in 1998 at a cost of $250,000 and was expected to last 30 to 40 years.
Public Works Director Todd Law says the city hopes to know in the coming weeks what it will take to make the bridge usable again, but the fix isn’t expected to be cheap.
