OSHA Seeks $84K For Injury at Pennsylvania Chocolate Works

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration wants to fine a Pittsburgh-area candy factory $84,150 for workplace safety violations allegedly found after a worker suffered serious head injuries when a machine accidentally started in October.

Officials with Tsudis Chocolate Co. did not immediately return a call for comment on the proposed fines announced Monday.

An OSHA spokeswoman says the worker was hurt Oct. 13 when a molding machine started up while the worker was setting it up. OSHA says the machine was not properly locked out to prevent an accidental startup.

OSHA says the worker suffered an eight-inch cut in the head and nerve damage to the neck and face as a result.

OSHA says 135 people work at the factory in O’Hara Township’s RIDC Park business complex.
