Maryland Ball Park Worker Dies After Fall
Maryland Occupational Safety and Health officials say they’re investigating the death of a young man who fell from a utility vehicle at a minor-league baseball stadium in Hagerstown.
The Herald-Mail reports that 18-year-old Mitchell Akers of Smithsburg died Wednesday, one day after suffering a head injury at Municipal Stadium.
Akers was a seasonal employee of the Hagerstown Suns, a minor-league affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
Police say he was riding atop some garbage bags in the back of a John Deere Gator. They say he fell when the driver made a left turn in the parking lot.
A MOSH spokeswoman says the agency’s findings will be confidential until the investigation is complete.
