Group Blasts Barricades Around Iconic New York City Statue
A community board is asking the city to remove metal gates around the iconic Charging Bull in Lower Manhattan, saying the barricades are endangering tourists.
Community Board 1 passed a unanimous resolution against the barricades around the bronze bovine. The gates were put in place last September during Occupy Wall Street protests in the area.
The board says the barricades in Bowling Green push tourists posing for photos in front of the famous sculpture into the street.
The New York Post says the board also called for less intrusive security measures.
A Department of Transportation spokesman says the agency is working to create additional pedestrian space around Bowling Green.
