Vermont Woman Loses Health, Home to Post-Irene Mold

A Vermont woman says she’s been forced from her home by mold that Tropical Storm Irene left behind, and she’s had trouble getting help for the problem.

Thirty-nine-year-old Chandar Hall of Northfield says she’s been suffering migraines, exhaustion, convulsions, kidney and other problems since mold began growing in her basement after the Dog River flooded it.

And Hall says she’s fallen into a gap in the funding for repairs between her flood insurance, which paid for only structural repairs, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which she says told her she was too late when she asked for help.

FEMA spokesman David Mace says the agency can help in cases where flood insurance didn’t pay for needed repairs.
