Virginia Church Hit by Quake Wants Funds for Repairs

A Louisa County, Va., church that sustained about $1 million in structural damage from last year’s earthquake is trying to raise money for repairs.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Louisa wants to raise $500,000 to help pay for repairs that have already been made or still need to be done.

The Free Lance-Star reports the goal is to have the money raised by the church’s 200th anniversary in November 2014.

Church spokeswoman Karen Rosica says a committee is looking to book at least one fundraising event each month.

The region has experienced dozens of aftershocks since a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck on Aug. 23, 2011. Mineral was the earthquake’s epicenter.
