OSHA Fines Virginia Railroad Company $932,000
Norfolk Southern Railway Co. has been ordered to pay two whistleblowers $932,000.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced the penalties Tuesday. An investigation concluded that the workers’ reporting of injuries suffered on the job ultimately led to their firing.
Besides the monetary finding, OSHA also ordered Norfolk Southern to clear the disciplinary records of the two workers and provide employee training about whistleblower rights.
The Virginian-Pilot reports it is the fourth time in about a year that OSHA has accused the railroad company of violating federal whistleblower-protection laws.
Norfolk Southern has appealed the previous findings.
