New York Woman Sentenced for Bilking Feds Out of $326K
A former central New York mail carrier has been sentenced to more than a year in prison and ordered to pay back the more than $325,000 in workers compensation funds she stole from the federal government.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 42-year-old Tracey Raponi of Martville, Cayuga County, was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months in federal prison and ordered to pay nearly $326,500 in restitution. Raponi was employed as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Fulton in neighboring Oswego County.
Raponi and her husband pleaded guilty in May to making false statements in order for her to get federal workers compensation benefits.
Officials says she was collecting workers compensation while working for a dog breeding and boarding business owned by her husband.
