Virginia Statewide Tornado Drill Set for March 12
Virginia emergency management officials are planning a statewide tornado drill in March.
Officials are seeking businesses and organizations, schools, and families and individuals to register for the drill set for on March 12 at 9:45 a.m.
The drill is a joint effort between the state Department of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service.
Emergency management officials say it is important for people to know what to do if a tornado warning is issued for their area. State coordinator Michael Cline says that 62 tornadoes have hit Virginia over the last two years. Ten people were killed, more than 100 were injured and dozens of homes and businesses were destroyed.
Instructions and registration for the statewide drill are available at http://www.vaemergency.gov.
