Rhode Island Gets $3.2M in Storm Recovery Fundings
Rhode Island has been awarded over $3.2 million in federal funding for recovery related to Superstorm Sandy.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the state’s initial share of Community Development Block Grant disaster recovery money on Wednesday.
The recovery funding gives states flexibility to determine how the money can be used best. But it generally goes to restore housing and infrastructure in affected areas and promote economic revitalization.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee says Rhode Island fared better during Sandy than many other states but that the funds will help Rhode Islanders repairs their homes and businesses.
New York City, New York state, New Jersey, Maryland and Connecticut also got funding in the first round of allocation. Congress approved a total of $16 billion in CDBG funding.
