Pennsylvania Sugar Plant Worker Killed After Fall Into Vat
Authorities say a worker at a sugar processing plant in suburban Philadelphia died after falling into a large vat.
Police in Bucks County said they were called to the CSC Sugar Plant in Falls Township on Monday afternoon after a worker was reported missing.
Lt. Henry Ward of the township police department said searchers later found the worker dead in the vat.
He said the victim’s name and other information is not being released pending notification of his relatives.
Officials said the victim, a man in his 40s, apparently fell off a catwalk into the vat.
The Bucks County Courier Times says the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation.
CSC Sugar, headquartered in Connecticut, trades, distributes and refines sugar.
