Disbarred Massachusetts Lawyer Faces Larceny Charge
A disbarred Lawrence, Mass., attorney has been indicted on charges that he stole more than $900,000 from clients.
The state attorney general’s office says 35-year-old Phillip Thompson was indicted Thursday on charges including larceny and unauthorized practice of law. No arraignment date was scheduled.
Authorities say Thompson stole the money between July 2007 and June 2011.
The attorney general’s office says in one case he pocketed a more than $416,000 insurance settlement that was supposed to go to a couple whose house burned down.
He is also accused of failing to return $60,000 that a church asked him to hold in escrow pending a land purchase.
He’s also charged with continuing to practice law after his license was suspended in June 2010.
A working number for Thompson could not be located.
