Changes Set for Dangerous Western New York Intersection
State transportation officials say changes are being made to improve safety at a rural intersection in western New York where a collision claimed the lives of three young people last month.
The Department of Transportation says work is scheduled to begin Wednesday morning to make the intersection of Route 36 and North Road in Wheatland a four-way stop.
The intersection outside Rochester was the scene of a collision July 16 involving a sport utility vehicle carrying five young people and a tractor-trailer. The 21-year-old woman driving the SUV and a 20-year-old man died at the scene. The man’s 17-year-old sister died three days later.
A 20-year-old woman who survived was released from the hospital Tuesday. A 17-year-old girl remains hospitalized.
The DOT news release announcing the changes didn’t mention the crash.
